The Wiedersum organization has worked on several interesting college programs since the early 1960’s. In New York, the firm developed and completed a master plan of the entire campus, plus constructed several buildings for Queensboro Community College; at Queens College, we completed a four-story Student Union building; developed and completed a master plan, as well as five buildings, at the Riverhead Campus of Suffolk Community College; constructed a maintenance and storage building at SUNY Stony Brook; completed renovations to the Huntington Library at the Selden Campus of Suffolk Community College; designed and completed the National Aviation and Transportation Center for Dowling College; and constructed a multi-story dormitory project at Trenton State College in New Jersey.
The firm continues to actively seek work at Stony Brook University’s home campus and Southampton location, both Suffolk and Nassau Community Colleges, and Dowling College. Recently, the Wiedersum team worked with Dowling in developing a master plan for a potential 2300-student housing complex, and student union building at their Brookhaven campus. The program required a phased design schedule that could easily expand as the campus grew and housing demands increased. It initially called for Phase I to include 300 dorms with standard building features for student living, a central dining facility, and several classrooms. The building design allowed for the classroom component to be converted into dorm space as needed or when the academic structures were completed.
