About Us

Wiedersum Associates Architects, PLLC is one of the oldest and most widely recognized family-owned architecture firms in the United States.  For over 89 years and through four generations, WAA has completed over 2,000 major projects in the New York metropolitan area. With a focus on education, healthcare, and cultural and municipal institutions, WAA’s innovative designs have significantly influenced Long Island’s communities.  Over the last 25 years, the Wiedersum organization has successfully delivered projects with a total construction value of over $990 million.

The firm was established in 1926 by Frederic P. Wiedersum, an architect with a vision for improving the quality of the educational environment by designing functional structures that serve both the students and community.  His first notable project, the Valley Stream Central High School, was completed in 1929. The second outstanding educational institution, Wellington-Mepham High School in the Bellmore-Merrick School District, came five years later and set the tone for secondary educational facilities throughout North America and Europe. Some 85 years later, both schools maintain their unique majestic appearance, as well as structural integrity and infrastructure functionality.

Today, under the leadership of Richard W. Wiedersum and Edward R. Casper, WAA is committed to providing a single source of responsibility for managing and coordinating not only architectural services, but engineering services, as well.  The firm’s ultimate goal is to offer well planned, inspiring, and financially attainable design solutions to each and every client, regardless of the magnitude or complexity of the assignment. The Wiedersum organization is also committed to offering cutting-edge sustainable building designs to meet clients’ financial and environmental goals.

We believe it is essential to make ourselves approachable and available to our clients, and responsive to their needs while providing top-notch professional services in a timely manner.  The foundation of WAA is based on a few simple but critical principles that are integrated into every aspect of our daily work environment and communications with our clients:

  • Passion for our work
  • Flexibility in our approach
  • Respect for the various individuals involved in the overall process
  • Accountability for all decisions
  • Open dialogue throughout the course of every project
